Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a Holiday Inn when I first pulled up to the niu Hub – honestly, the location on Vogelsanger Weg had me thinking this might be one of those forgettable business hotel experiences. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

First off, they’ve done something clever with the whole “niu” concept – it’s like Holiday Inn’s cooler younger sibling that actually gets what modern travelers want. The lobby hits you with this industrial-chic vibe that feels more Berlin startup than corporate chain, and I mean that as a compliment. The staff at check-in were genuinely friendly (not that rehearsed hotel smile thing), and parking was straightforward, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate Düsseldorf with a rental car, you’ll appreciate. The rooms are compact but smartly designed – think Scandinavian efficiency meets German engineering. Everything works exactly as it should, the Wi-Fi doesn’t drop every five minutes, and the beds are actually comfortable enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled with the mattress all night.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you – yes, you’re in Mörsenbroich, which sounds like the middle of nowhere, but it’s actually pretty strategic. You’re maybe fifteen minutes by U-Bahn to the Altstadt if you want that classic Düsseldorf experience, but you’re also super close to the Messe (trade fair grounds) without dealing with the chaos and inflated prices of staying right in the thick of things. The neighborhood itself is quiet – like, properly quiet at night, not just “hotel marketing quiet” – and there’s a decent bakery about a five-minute walk away where locals actually go for their morning coffee. The hotel’s breakfast setup is solid too, nothing fancy but they do proper German bread and the coffee doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday.

What really won me over was how the place feels lived-in rather than sterile. The common areas actually get used – I saw people working on laptops, having real conversations, not just rushing through like they couldn’t wait to leave. Even the elevator music isn’t terrible, which honestly might be the highest praise I can give any hotel. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind or become your new favorite Instagram backdrop, but sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well without any pretense. The 8.2 rating makes sense – it’s the kind of spot where everything works, nothing disappoints, and you’d genuinely consider staying again. Plus, for a 3-star place, it punches above its weight in ways that matter more than thread count or marble countertops.

Breakfast was great, the room was clean, tidy and modern. Staff were very helpful and accommodating too.

What could be improved: No control of the temperature in the room. It was sooooo hot during the night. Also didn’t like how I booked for a queen/double bed but instead got 2 small beds put next to each other.

  • Great stay for money! – Renvi from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (9/10)

Great service and very clean. The staff were really helpful and did all they could to keep us comfortable. Within the lobby there is a 24hour bar and access to any necessities, overall great value for money!

What could be improved: Sadly, the location is slightly out the way however only couple tram rides into city centre. There are no double beds, only single (joined) despite this made a little uncomfortable for me and my husband.
