First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel am Hofgarten on Arnoldstraße, you immediately get the sense this three-star property knows exactly what it’s doing. The building has that understated German elegance — nothing flashy, but everything feels deliberate and well-maintained. I mean, when you’re in Pempelfort, one of Düsseldorf’s most coveted neighborhoods, you don’t need to shout about it. The entrance is welcoming without being overly grand, which honestly sets the right tone for what’s a genuinely comfortable stay.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about staying in Pempelfort — you’re basically in the sweet spot of Düsseldorf. Hotel am Hofgarten sits just steps from the famous Hofgarten park, which locals will tell you is where the city comes to breathe. You can walk to the Altstadt in about fifteen minutes, but you’re far enough away that you won’t hear the weekend party crowds. The Königsallee shopping district is close enough for an afternoon stroll, and honestly, the public transport connections are excellent if you want to explore further. Couples seem to particularly love this area — I can see why, since there’s something romantic about those tree-lined streets and the proximity to the park.

The Rooms

The accommodations at Hotel am Hofgarten are what I’d call thoughtfully simple. You won’t find cutting-edge design or trendy fixtures, but everything works exactly as it should. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with decent-sized windows that let in plenty of natural light — something you really appreciate during those shorter German winter days. The beds are proper European firm (which took me a night to adjust to, but then I slept great), and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without feeling cramped. The bathrooms are compact but functional, with good water pressure and reliable hot water.

Breakfast & Amenities

The continental breakfast buffet here is actually quite solid for a three-star hotel. You’ll find the usual suspects — fresh bread, cold cuts, cheeses, and decent coffee — but they do it well rather than just going through the motions. I particularly appreciated that they had local specialties mixed in with the standard offerings. There’s parking available on-site, which anyone who’s tried to find street parking in this part of Düsseldorf will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The staff speaks excellent English and seems genuinely helpful rather than just polite.

Why Guests Love It

What really makes Hotel am Hofgarten work is that it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. You’re paying for an excellent location in one of Düsseldorf’s best neighborhoods, clean comfortable rooms, and reliable service. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — there’s no spa or rooftop bar — but for exploring the city and having a solid base to return to each evening, it hits the mark perfectly. The fact that it consistently gets high marks for location tells you everything you need to know. Sometimes the best hotels are the ones that simply do the basics exceptionally well.

  This double room with en-suite was just perfect for a business trip. The cost was really good and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was ideal and the power from the shower was really powerful, with immediate hot water.
  Marcel greeted us at reception and was super friendly and chilled out. Not something I find most German's are…
  But it was not just him, all the staff wore big smiles and eager to help.
  Train was a stone's throw away and the old city was a 15 minute walk.
  I will certainly return to this hotel for any future trips to Dusseldorf.
  And I hope Marcel did well in his Chess Competition.

  the hotel is very central and ideal for seeing all the sights. the breakfast room although in the basement is a lovely bright room and the breakfasts excellent. our room was very comfortable.
  
  all the staff without exception were so friendly and attentive.
  we were also given on arrival a Dusseldorf travel card which entitled us to free public transport in the city for the duration of our stay. we found this invaluable for reaching the further reaches of the city.
  
  What could be improved: perhaps the stairway and landings could do with a little bit of revitalising.
