Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about HOTEL Am Spichernplatz? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Derendorf that honestly feels more like a local neighborhood than a tourist zone – which, if you ask me, is exactly what makes it interesting. I mean, you’re not going to stumble across crowds of tour groups here, but you will find yourself walking past actual Düsseldorfers heading to work or walking their dogs.
The hotel itself has that unpretentious, solid German approach to hospitality. It’s a proper 3-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and the 7.9 rating actually feels about right – comfortable without any unnecessary frills. The rooms are clean and functional (I appreciated the decent-sized windows), though don’t expect Instagram-worthy design moments. What I really liked was how quiet it gets at night; Ulmenstraße isn’t a main thoroughfare, so you can actually sleep without earplugs. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too – not just going through the motions, but actually offering practical suggestions about getting around the city.
Here’s the thing about staying in Derendorf that most visitors don’t realize until they’re there: you’re perfectly positioned between the more touristy Altstadt and the business district, but without the chaos of either. There’s a decent bakery just down the street (the pretzels are legit), and you can catch the U-Bahn pretty easily to get into central Düsseldorf – takes maybe 15 minutes to reach the Rhine promenade. I found myself walking more than I expected because the area has this pleasant, tree-lined vibe that makes strolling feel natural rather than like exercise. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving, but honestly, that’s Düsseldorf for you – at least the hotel staff know which streets are your best bet for finding a spot. The breakfast was solid continental fare, nothing fancy but fresh bread and good coffee, which is really all you need before heading out to explore. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than in a tourist bubble, and sometimes that’s exactly what a trip needs.

Sauna was great, has multiple resting areas.
Great accessibility.
Good breakfast, had variety.
Screen mirroring to the TV worked.
Thought out closets had slots for the suitcases and hangers one on each side of the bed.
What could be improved: "Double bed" was actually 2 separate beds.

No space in the minifridge for our food.An excellent hotel well located for a short break in Dusseldorf – David from United Kingdom – 23 June 2025 (9/10)
The breakfast was exceptional plenty of well prepared and presented food for everyones taste in a very comfortable and clean Dining room. The room although small was very comfortable except for the corner of the bed which was pointed and when i fell against it during the last night i received a nasty injury to the left side of my left leg which bled profusely. The room was very clean and comfortable
Great spot near the city – Simon from Malaysia – 14 June 2025 (9/10)
Lovely place, directly at a tram station and with an elevator!
There's also a balcony and one Aircon.
What could be improved: The dining table is fairly small for 10 pax and additional chairs are needed.
2 bathrooms require some communication or scheduling to take showers etc.
Note: if the hotel parking garage is full, be prepared to spend quite some time to find parking in the neighborhoodGreat hotel to stay for a couple of nights – Yaroslav from Austria – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Hard mattressSuperb – Andrei from Ukraine – 25 April 2025 (9/10)
I liked the hotel because of its price-quality ratio. The hotel is located 30 minutes walk from the city center. There is a public transport stop nearby, and trains to the airport. The room is clean, the bed linen and towels are changed every day. Polite and helpful staff. A varied menu for breakfast.

Every thing in this hotel was good with this price. Clean, new furnitures, well arranged and nice staff.
What could be improved: If you travel by car, it is difficult to find a parking place which is the only issue with this hotel.
