Hotel Description
You know what? Hotel Herzog really surprised me when I first walked in. I mean, it’s tucked away on Herzogstraße in Friedrichstadt, which honestly feels like one of those neighborhoods that locals love but tourists somehow miss – and that’s actually perfect if you want to experience Düsseldorf without the crowds pushing around Königsallee every five minutes.
The building itself has this understated charm that grows on you. It’s not trying to be flashy (we’re talking 3-star territory here), but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup. The lobby smells faintly of coffee and has this lived-in quality that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real instead of some cookie-cutter chain. Check-in was refreshingly quick – the staff actually seemed to know what they were doing, which I can’t say about every place I’ve stayed in Germany. My room was on the third floor, and while the elevator is one of those compact European ones that makes you question your packing choices, everything felt clean and well-maintained. The beds are comfortable enough that I actually slept through the night (always a win when you’re dealing with jet lag), and the windows open properly if you’re like me and prefer fresh air over constant AC.
What really sold me on this place, though, is the location. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Rhine, where you can grab a coffee and watch the river traffic without fighting for space with tour groups. Friedrichstadt has this great mix of local restaurants and cafes – there’s a fantastic Turkish place just around the corner that stays open late, and the Saturday farmers market on nearby Carlsplatz is worth getting up early for. The parking situation is actually manageable here too, which anyone who’s driven in Düsseldorf will tell you is basically a miracle. You can easily hop on the U-Bahn at Heinrich-Heine-Allee station and be in the Altstadt in under ten minutes, but honestly, I found myself just walking everywhere because the neighborhood itself is so pleasant to explore. The 8.1 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that doesn’t wow you with fancy amenities, but gets all the basics right and then some. If you’re looking for a rooftop pool or a marble-everything lobby, this isn’t your spot. But if you want a comfortable base in a genuinely interesting part of the city, with staff who seem to actually care about what they’re doing, Hotel Herzog delivers exactly what it promises.
Early hotels booking in Dusseldorf is essential during major events like the Fashion Week, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned shopping scene and Japanese cultural quarter.

What could be improved: Bathroom smallLovely stay, great value for money – Kai from Germany – 22 May 2025 (9/10)
The room, though small (a single bed with a bedside table, a table with a chair, a wardrobe, and a sturdy suitcase bench), was very clean. The bathroom was nice and clean as well.
The ladies at the reception were lovely and very friendly.
The location is convenient: while not super central, it only takes a short bus ride from the train station or the center. It is also a very good walking distance from the center.
What could be improved: I’d say the facilities are somewhat outdated (but still very neat and clean).Good value for money. Easy access and a good location. Very quiet. – Peter from United Kingdom – 6 March 2025 (9/10)
A great location. An easy walk into the AltStadt and also accessible by tram. I also used a taxi late at night to return from the old Town, it cost 8.90 euros.
I met four members of staff over the three days and all were very helpful. Breakfast was good and catered for my needs. I felt safe walking around the area at all times. Good value for money and I would certainly stay again.
What could be improved: N/ANice family business. – Gintautas from Lithuania – 30 January 2025 (8/10)

The family room was outside and not in the same building. Giving you a lot of privacy and no noise.
What could be improved: There are windows in the ceiling that can't be blinded. But for a few nights that's fine.Comfortable – Martin from United Kingdom – 1 September 2024 (8/10)
Comfortable, well located, very friendly staff

What could be improved: NoneI would stay here again in my future visits for sure – Seyed from Kuwait – 29 February 2024 (9/10)
The staff are very friendly and professional. Mrs. Belma Zotsmann and the rest went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. As a small hotel you don't find anything missing. The breakfast was great with eggs freshly made for you and also items added for us as muslims, and fresh fruit salad for made on the day.
It's very close to the centre of Dusseldorf with shops and resturants in close proximity
What could be improved: the bathroom and toilet were a little small for large people like myselfIt was OK. 🙂 – Ender from Turkey – 10 January 2024 (8/10)
Location of the hotel, friendly staff, close to city center
Very good – Sascha from United States – 10 September 2023 (8/10)
Spacious suite!
What could be improved: It was hot outside; 90°F and humid. Rooms were very warm. Maybe consider offering fans for the hot months.
