Hotel Herzog Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Herzog on Herzogstraße, you immediately get the sense that this place knows what it’s doing. It’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top — just a solid three-star hotel that sits perfectly in Friedrichstadt, one of Düsseldorf’s most charming neighborhoods. The building has that classic German elegance without being stuffy, and honestly, the location alone makes you feel like you’ve made a smart choice.
The Friedrichstadt Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re actually in the best-rated area of Düsseldorf, which isn’t just marketing speak. Friedrichstadt has this perfect mix of local cafes, boutique shops, and tree-lined streets that feel authentically German without the tourist crowds. You can walk to the Altstadt in about ten minutes, but you’re staying somewhere that locals actually hang out. The couples who stay here seem to get it — they consistently rate the location nearly 9 out of 10, and I mean, they’re not wrong.
Your Room and Comfort
The rooms at Hotel Herzog are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple.” You won’t find marble bathrooms or champagne service, but your room will be clean, comfortable, and designed by someone who actually understands what travelers need. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not too soft, not too firm — and the windows are well-insulated, which matters more than you’d think on a busy street like Herzogstraße. There’s decent storage space, and the bathrooms are modern enough without trying to be spa-like.
Getting Around and Practical Matters
One thing that really works about this location is how connected you are to everything. The nearest U-Bahn station is just a few minutes’ walk, so getting to the airport or exploring other parts of the city is straightforward. If you’re driving, parking in this area can be tricky, but the hotel staff knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward the best options. You know what’s nice? You can actually walk to most of the places you’ll want to visit — the Rhine promenade, the shopping district, even some excellent restaurants that aren’t just tourist traps.
Why Guests Love It
Hotel Herzog works because it doesn’t promise more than it delivers. You’re getting a well-run, comfortable place to stay in an excellent location, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. The staff seems to genuinely care about making your stay smooth rather than just going through the motions. With an 8.1 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people — and honestly, when you’re paying three-star prices for what feels like a four-star location, it’s hard to complain. This is the kind of place you’d book again without hesitation, especially if you want to experience Düsseldorf like someone who actually lives there.
Early hotels booking in Dusseldorf is essential during major events like the Fashion Week, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned shopping scene and Japanese cultural quarter.

What could be improved: Bathroom smallLovely stay, great value for money – Kai from Germany – 22 May 2025 (9/10)
The room, though small (a single bed with a bedside table, a table with a chair, a wardrobe, and a sturdy suitcase bench), was very clean. The bathroom was nice and clean as well.
The ladies at the reception were lovely and very friendly.
The location is convenient: while not super central, it only takes a short bus ride from the train station or the center. It is also a very good walking distance from the center.
What could be improved: I’d say the facilities are somewhat outdated (but still very neat and clean).Good value for money. Easy access and a good location. Very quiet. – Peter from United Kingdom – 6 March 2025 (9/10)
A great location. An easy walk into the AltStadt and also accessible by tram. I also used a taxi late at night to return from the old Town, it cost 8.90 euros.
I met four members of staff over the three days and all were very helpful. Breakfast was good and catered for my needs. I felt safe walking around the area at all times. Good value for money and I would certainly stay again.
What could be improved: N/ANice family business. – Gintautas from Lithuania – 30 January 2025 (8/10)

The family room was outside and not in the same building. Giving you a lot of privacy and no noise.
What could be improved: There are windows in the ceiling that can't be blinded. But for a few nights that's fine.Comfortable – Martin from United Kingdom – 1 September 2024 (8/10)
Comfortable, well located, very friendly staff

What could be improved: NoneI would stay here again in my future visits for sure – Seyed from Kuwait – 29 February 2024 (9/10)
The staff are very friendly and professional. Mrs. Belma Zotsmann and the rest went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. As a small hotel you don't find anything missing. The breakfast was great with eggs freshly made for you and also items added for us as muslims, and fresh fruit salad for made on the day.
It's very close to the centre of Dusseldorf with shops and resturants in close proximity
What could be improved: the bathroom and toilet were a little small for large people like myselfIt was OK. 🙂 – Ender from Turkey – 10 January 2024 (8/10)
Location of the hotel, friendly staff, close to city center
Very good – Sascha from United States – 10 September 2023 (8/10)
Spacious suite!
What could be improved: It was hot outside; 90°F and humid. Rooms were very warm. Maybe consider offering fans for the hot months.
