Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Wurms? The name – I mean, it’s definitely not trying to win any marketing awards, but honestly, that’s kind of refreshing in a world of overly polished hotel brands. Located on Scheurenstr. in Friedrichstadt, it sits in one of those quietly authentic Düsseldorf neighborhoods that most tourists completely miss. I actually stumbled across this place because I was staying nearby and kept walking past it on my way to the excellent Turkish bakery around the corner (seriously, grab breakfast there if you can).

The hotel itself is properly no-frills in that German way – clean, functional, and surprisingly comfortable without any unnecessary fuss. The lobby’s got this slightly retro vibe that feels more genuine than designed, if that makes sense. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood well enough to give decent recommendations beyond the usual tourist traps. My room was… well, it’s a 3-star place, so manage your expectations accordingly, but the bed was solid and everything worked. The shower had proper pressure (always a gamble in older European buildings), and honestly, the whole place just felt lived-in rather than sterile. You can hear some street noise if you’re a light sleeper, but Friedrichstadt isn’t exactly a party district, so it’s mostly just the occasional tram rumbling by.

What I really appreciated was the location – you’re close enough to walk to the Altstadt when you want that postcard Düsseldorf experience, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with hen parties stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The Friedrichstadt S-Bahn station is maybe a 7-minute walk, which puts you anywhere in the city pretty quickly. There’s a decent Vietnamese restaurant practically next door (the pho is legit), and if you head toward the Rhine, you’ll find some lovely quiet stretches for morning walks that feel completely removed from the city center chaos. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – typical German city situation – but the front desk folks seemed pretty helpful about pointing people toward the nearest options. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind or end up on Instagram, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, pay a reasonable price, and actually get a feel for how people live in Düsseldorf rather than just passing through the tourist bubble.

  • Very good – Helen from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (8/10)

Very clean and pleasant rooms excellent breakfast kind and helpful proprietor

What could be improved: Unfortunately unable to leave suitcases during the day until our (much later) onward train travel

  • Very friendly staff – Pieter from Netherlands – 9 December 2024 (8/10)

Very friendly staff, comfortable beds. We used the parking of the hotel, which was at short walking distance of the hotel. Hotel is located at walking distance from the city centre (+/- 15 mins walk). Clean room.

  • Very good – Gabi from Brazil – 2 July 2024 (8/10)

Room was nice and clean. The location is great, very close to the old town and a few minutes walking to the main train station.

  • Very nice, clean and quiet hotel with friendly and service-minded personnel, I recommend to anyone – Denis from Norway – 28 June 2024 (8/10)

The personnel were helpful, we were greeted with all necessary information and help in our stay. The service was very good, 24/7 reception and flexibility. The hotel was very quiet and private, there was a market just a few meters from the hotel, facilities were very good and clean, standard in line with expectations.

What could be improved: The hotel lies in a rough neighborhood. There are some sights and scenes on the way to the hotel a person would like to avoid, but we didn't run into any trouble even at night. We were hoping to leave our luggage at the hotel after check-out, to enjoy the rest of our time in Dusseldorf before we headed back to the airport, but the hotel didn't offer that on that day.

  • The hotel was well located near to Dusseldorf train station (5 minute walk) and the rooms were very clean, secure, spaci – Michael from United Kingdom – 27 June 2024 (9/10)

The hotel was well located near to Dusseldorf train station (5 minute walk) and the rooms were very clean, secure, spacious and quiet.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
This hotel is very good value for money and I would definitely stay there again if I visit Dusseldorf again.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Perfect. – Martyn from United Kingdom – 26 June 2024 (9/10)

Staff were so pleasant and kind.
    Perfect for my needs

What could be improved: Only think missing was a kettle and some tea and coffee in the rooms

  • Good – Milind from Australia – 26 June 2024 (7/10)

    Location and cost

What could be improved: Pillows were very flat and not really pillows, oddly shaped and not plump.

  • Handy location for train station and not too far from old town. Staff are very nice. – Sarah from United Kingdom – 13 June 2024 (8/10)

Very clean and we were able to book last minute due to a train cancellation

What could be improved: Decor is slightly dated

  • Family owned hotel in a convenient location – Nana from Canada – 4 June 2024 (9/10)

The hotel was beautifully kept and very near the train station. We could walk everywhere from that location.

What could be improved: Although the location was great for convenience, it wasn't the prettiest. It was a safe area.

  • Very good – Matthew from Switzerland – 19 April 2024 (8/10)

Really nice, family-run hotel. Old-fashioned in a very good way!
