Honestly, when I first pulled up to Näher Messe und Flughafen 3 on Fasanenweg, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, the name literally translates to “closer to trade fair and airport,” which sounds pretty utilitarian, right? But you know what struck me right away? This little street in Unterrath is actually perfect if you’re someone who needs to be near the action without paying those insane city center prices. The neighborhood has this quiet, residential feel that’s surprisingly peaceful, especially considering you’re only about 10 minutes from Düsseldorf Airport when traffic’s normal.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually get what business travelers need. Check-in was smooth – none of that awkward standing around waiting for someone to find your reservation – and they knew exactly which tram lines would get me to Messe Düsseldorf fastest (it’s the U79, by the way, super straightforward). The rooms are what I’d call smart simple – clean lines, decent workspace, and honestly the bed was way more comfortable than I expected from a 3-star place. The shower had proper water pressure too, which… well, if you’ve stayed in enough European hotels, you know that’s not always a given. I could hear some street noise in the morning, but nothing that would wake you up if you’re not a super light sleeper.

Here’s the thing that surprised me most – this place has a 9 rating, and after staying there, I totally get why. It’s not trying to be fancy or Instagram-worthy, but everything just works. The WiFi actually reaches every corner of the room, there’s decent coffee in the lobby (not great, but decent), and parking is straightforward if you’re driving. Plus, you’re in this sweet spot where you can grab groceries at the Rewe just down the street, but you’re also close enough to hop on public transport when you want to explore Düsseldorf proper. The Altstadt is maybe 20 minutes away by train, and honestly, after spending your days at trade shows or dealing with flight schedules, coming back to this quiet corner of Unterrath feels pretty nice. I’d definitely book here again – it’s one of those places that doesn’t waste your time with unnecessary frills but gets all the important stuff right.

  What could be improved: Horrible bed linen & pillows. Very expensive during the euros. There was a leak in the bathroom when we arrived & part of the floor remained wet throughout our 2 night visit. No kitchen, just a a fridge in the corner of the bedroom. Not an apartment as listed, it should be title a studio apartment.
