Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Pension Pagalies on Stockumer Kirchstrasse, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in this quiet residential stretch of Stockum, and from the outside it looks like, well, exactly what it is: a no-frills pension in a neighborhood most tourists never see. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly why I ended up liking it.
The thing about Stockum is that it’s properly local – you’re not going to find crowds of sightseers wandering around taking photos of every doorway. Instead, you get this authentic slice of Düsseldorf life where people are just going about their business. The pension sits right on a tree-lined street where you’ll hear more German than English, and honestly, that felt refreshing after dealing with the tourist chaos in Altstadt. There’s a decent bakery just down the street (the kind where locals queue up on Sunday mornings), and if you walk about ten minutes toward the Rhine, you hit some really nice walking paths that hardly anyone talks about in guidebooks. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re fine. I mean, this is a 3-star pension, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or fancy toiletries, but everything was clean and functional. The beds were actually pretty comfortable – sometimes you get lucky with these smaller places. What I appreciated was how quiet it got at night; being in a residential area means you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM like you would near the old town.
The family running the place seems to genuinely care about what they’re doing, which you can tell in small ways – they actually remembered my name after the first day, and when I mentioned I was trying to find a good spot for a morning run, they drew me a little map of the neighborhood routes. That 7.3 rating makes sense to me because it’s not trying to be something it isn’t. You’re paying for a clean, comfortable place to sleep in a real German neighborhood, with easy access to public transport (the U-Bahn connection isn’t bad at all) when you want to head into the city center. If you’re the type of traveler who needs a concierge and room service, this obviously isn’t your spot. But if you want to experience Düsseldorf more like someone who actually lives here – grabbing coffee from the local spots, walking through residential streets where kids are riding bikes and people are tending their gardens – then Pension Pagalies gives you that authentic base without breaking the bank. Just don’t expect Instagram-worthy interiors, and you’ll probably leave pretty satisfied.

Reviews
Very enjoyable, excellent location for exhibition visitors, friendly hosts. – Eccles from United Kingdom – 5 June 2024 (8/10)
Location is excellent for visiting the Düsseldorf Messe complex. The pension has a small kitchen available to guests, and there are useful shops within minutes to buy food. There are also restaurants, the nearby Aquazoo and extensive park, plus a short walk to the gardens alongside the Rhine. It's very close to a U-Bahn stop that gets you into central Düsseldorf quickly and cheaply, and it's on a bus route to the airport. There are two public charging points for electric cars adjacent on the street. Although there's no regular parking, Dagmar gave us an overnight space while we unloaded, and we parked at the Messe after that.
What could be improved: The WiFi was intermittent, but we had our own mobile hub so this wasn't a problem. We struggled to find more than a couple of English language channels on the TV, but hey, this is Germany so that's fair enough! Otherwise, we were very happy with everything!Pleasant – Jana from Latvia – 6 July 2023 (6/10)
The location was a 20 min walk from the arena and a 15min tram ride from the city.
What could be improved: The wifi was not working at all (couldn’t connect, so we were stuck using our data), poor light in the bathroom, could only pay in cash, need to pay extra for late check in. The curtains didn’t close all the way, so the sun was shining in the room in the morning (better bring a eye mask)Pleasant – Simon from Malta – 6 July 2023 (6/10)
Location was perfect for us, next to the arena, since we were there for a concert .
Very clean place .
What could be improved: No functioning wifi, even though it is listed as available with the lodging.
Tv stations all glitching.
So it is misrepresented on booking.comPleasant – Ting from China – 1 October 2022 (6/10)
Very close to messe Dusseldorf
What could be improved: No lifts and no breakfastPleasant – Yucel from Turkey – 25 January 2024 (6/10)
there is no breakfast service. if they serve break it may be better.
What could be improved: It is a small building. There is not much to do about itIt is a pension I will prefer again on my next trip. – Serkan from Turkey – 29 October 2023 (10/10)
The location was perfect for us

Superb – George from United Kingdom – 8 October 2023 (9/10)
The property is fantastic and the staff were very welcoming, 1 minute walk away from tram stop with services to the airport and city centre
Perfect location – very friendly and helpful host – Suite from Denmark – 24 March 2023 (9/10)
Perfect location if you're attending a fair in Düsseldorf
Passable – Robert from Slovenia – 25 May 2023 (5/10)
Location to convention centre
What could be improved: I put dirty towel on the floor to be replaced and they just picked it up and put it back on the hanger. That was most disappointing about the property.
