Hotel Description
You know what? The Sure Hotel by Best Western Ambassador kind of surprised me. I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the building on Harkortstr, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s this solid, no-nonsense structure that looks like it means business rather than trying to wow you with fancy architecture. But that actually worked in its favor once I got inside.
The thing about staying in Friedrichstadt is that you’re properly in Düsseldorf without the tourist circus, and this hotel gets that. You’re maybe a 15-minute walk to the Altstadt if you want the brewery crawls and Rhine views, but honestly, I found myself loving this quieter pocket of the city. There’s this great little bakery just around the corner where locals actually go – you’ll hear more German than English, which I mean, obviously you should in Germany, but you know what I mean. The rooms are clean and straightforward, nothing Instagram-worthy but everything works properly. The shower pressure was actually decent (you never know with older European buildings), and the beds are firm in that way that makes you sleep better than you expected to.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Königsallee for shopping, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the tourist trap route – he mentioned which U-Bahn stop to use and which exit comes out closest to the stores I’d actually want. Small thing, but it matters when you’re trying to make the most of a short trip. The breakfast setup is pretty standard continental fare, though they do this thing with local jams that’s worth getting up for. Parking was surprisingly painless too, which if you’ve ever tried to park in central Düsseldorf, you’ll know is basically a minor miracle. Look, it’s a solid 3-star that delivers exactly what it promises – clean, comfortable, and staffed by people who seem to actually like helping travelers figure out their city. The 7.1 rating feels about right, maybe even a bit conservative if you’re the type who values substance over style.
