Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about acora Düsseldorf Living the City? It’s not actually in the city center like the name suggests – it’s tucked away in Hassels, which honestly turned out to be one of those happy accidents that make a trip memorable. I mean, when I first pulled up to In der Donk 6, I’ll admit I was questioning my booking choice, but hear me out on this one.

The whole setup is apartment-style, which means you get a proper kitchen and living space instead of just a bed and a tiny desk. After spending way too many hotel stays eating overpriced room service, having a place where I could actually cook breakfast and store leftovers from those massive German portions was honestly refreshing. The apartments themselves are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but everything works, and the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed. The neighborhood is surprisingly quiet too, especially compared to the chaos around Königsallee or the Altstadt. You’ll hear the occasional tram rumbling by, but it’s more of a gentle city hum than anything disruptive.

What really won me over was how easy it became to live like a local for a few days. There’s a decent bakery just down the street where the owner started recognizing me by day three (and my terrible German), and the S-Bahn connection gets you into central Düsseldorf in about fifteen minutes – faster than fighting traffic and hunting for parking, trust me. The area has that authentic residential feel where you’re walking past actual Düsseldorfers heading to work instead of dodging tour groups every block. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the grocery store nearby had the best selection of local beers I found anywhere in the city. Sometimes being slightly off the beaten path works in your favor. The 7.1 rating seems about right – it’s not going to wow you with luxury touches or Instagram-worthy views, but it delivers on the basics and gives you space to breathe. If you’re the type who likes exploring beyond the obvious tourist spots and doesn’t need someone to fold your towels into swan shapes, this place actually makes a lot of sense.

What could be improved: Not enough place to keep our things when we were staying for 4 weeks. Room was quite simple. And the shower didn't drain well and the shower door was leaky so the bathroom floor was wet after almost every shower.
