Hotel Description
You know what? Hotel Aleksandra caught me off guard in the best possible way. I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Kaiserswerther Straße, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. The building itself is pretty understated, sort of blends into the Golzheim neighborhood, but that’s actually part of its charm. This isn’t some flashy tourist trap – it’s where people stay when they actually want to experience Düsseldorf like a local.
The location is honestly brilliant if you know the city at all. Golzheim is one of those areas that feels residential but you’re still ridiculously close to everything that matters. I mean, you can walk to the Rhine promenade in about ten minutes, and the Japanese Quarter (which, trust me, has some of the best ramen outside of Tokyo) is practically next door. The staff seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned I was planning to explore Königsallee on foot – apparently most guests just hop on the efficient tram system right outside, which makes sense because German public transport is no joke. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Even though you’re on a main street, the rooms face away from the traffic, so you’re not dealing with that constant hum of cars that plagues so many city hotels.
Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no trying to upsell me on spa packages or breakfast buffets I didn’t want. The room itself felt lived-in in a good way, like someone’s well-maintained apartment rather than a sterile hotel box. The bathroom was actually bigger than I expected (and honestly, after staying in some London hotels where you can barely turn around, that’s saying something). I loved the little details – real wooden hangers instead of those theft-proof plastic things, and the windows actually opened properly, which you’d think would be standard but… well, it’s not. The WiFi was solid throughout my stay, which matters when you’re trying to figure out whether that museum you want to visit is closed on Mondays.
Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the breakfast room has this huge window overlooking a quiet courtyard, and in the morning light, with good coffee and actual fresh bread (not some sad packaged croissant), it felt like I’d stumbled into someone’s favorite local secret. The other guests seemed to be a mix of business travelers and people like me who’d done their research and wanted something authentic. Sure, it’s not going to blow you away with luxury amenities – there’s no rooftop bar or marble lobby – but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Düsseldorf, not just passing through it.

Clean and cozy.
Nice closet, two blankets and pillows was available.
What could be improved: There was not hotel slipper inside and I had to walk in room and bathroom with outside shoes even when I took shower and the ground get wet. It was crazy and I had to use the towels to dry the ground first and put my feet on. For this reason the carpet of room was dirty. It was the best place stayed at on my trip so far – Rebecca from Canada – 28 October 2024 (8/10)
