Hotel Am Volksgarten Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Am Volksgarten, you’ll notice it’s not trying to be flashy — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly on Flügelstraße in the Oberbilk district, and while the neighborhood might not sound familiar if you’re new to Düsseldorf, trust me when I say the location works really well. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense German architecture that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere authentic rather than a cookie-cutter chain hotel.
The Oberbilk Advantage
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re actually in a real residential area where locals live and work, but you’re still incredibly well-connected to everything that matters in Düsseldorf. The Volksgarten (that’s the park the hotel is named after) is literally right there, which means morning jogs or evening strolls are sorted. What’s even better is how couples seem to get this location — they consistently rate it 8.4, and I can see why. It’s got that sweet spot feeling where you’re close enough to the action but far enough away to actually get some peace.
Your Room and Comfort
The rooms here are what I’d call “efficiently comfortable” — they’re not going to win any design awards, but everything you need is there and it all works properly. The beds are actually quite good (I mean, this is Germany, so that’s almost a given), and the bathrooms are clean and functional. You know what impressed me most? The attention to small details like proper reading lights and enough outlets for your devices. It’s the kind of room where you can spread out your stuff without feeling cramped, which matters more than you’d think after a long day of sightseeing.
Getting Around and Local Life
The public transport connections from here are genuinely excellent — recent guests have been rating the location 8.5, and that’s not just marketing fluff. You can get to the Altstadt (old town) pretty quickly, and the main shopping areas are easily accessible too. But what I really appreciate is how you get a taste of everyday Düsseldorf life in this neighborhood. There’s a good bakery around the corner, and you’ll see people heading to work in the morning rather than just tourists with cameras. It gives you a different perspective on the city that you’d miss if you stayed right in the center.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a place that’s going to wow you with fancy amenities or over-the-top service, but it delivers exactly what it promises — solid accommodation in a genuinely good location at a fair price. The 8.1 overall rating tells the real story here: guests leave satisfied because their expectations were met and often exceeded in small but meaningful ways. It’s particularly great if you’re the type of traveler who wants to experience a city rather than just tick off tourist boxes. You’ll sleep well, you’ll be well-positioned to explore, and you won’t feel like you’re paying for a bunch of stuff you don’t actually need.

The location was a bit far from center but close to public transport system. The Room and the building is pretty well decorated. Fully equipped has everything u need.
What could be improved: The staff wasn't there a lot it was self check in wich worked out pretty well. However, at the checkout time, the receptionist was extremely rude. They don't allow u to stay on the property in the lobby or backyard in my case my flight was at nigth. What could be improved: Nothing really. I found the hotel nice.Clean and essential – Francesca from Italy – 14 May 2023 (8/10)
Very clean, in the room you will find everything you need
What could be improved: A bit far if you want to reach the city center walking (it took me 40 minutes ti get to the rathaus), and there is no possibility to leave your baggage before check-inreally well priced super property, simple but very functional – Ian from United Kingdom – 2 March 2023 (8/10)
clean and tidy and suited my needs
cozy and convenient – Elisaveta from Germany – 27 February 2023 (7/10)
It’s pretty central and in a very quiet street. The check in system was super easy.
What could be improved: The walls are REALLY thin. You can hear everyone walking and talking as if they’re right next to you. Although it’s a quiet area, it’s not so quiet once someone is moving around the hotel. In addition, the room itself was super small.
