Walking into Moxy Duesseldorf South, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical three-star hotel. The staff greets you with genuine smiles, and there’s this relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel like you can kick off your shoes (metaphorically speaking) right away.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about Holthausen — it’s not exactly central Düsseldorf, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re in this quieter residential area that feels authentically German, away from the tourist crowds around the Altstadt. The hotel sits on Bonner Strasse, which connects you easily to the city center via public transport, and I mean easily — the S-Bahn gets you downtown in about 15 minutes. What I really appreciate is having private parking here, because let’s be honest, finding a parking spot in Düsseldorf proper can be a nightmare and expensive as hell.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Moxy Duesseldorf South are compact but cleverly designed — everything has a purpose, nothing feels wasted. You’ve got this Murphy bed setup that doubles as a sofa during the day, which actually works better than you’d expect. The bathroom is small but functional, with a decent shower that has proper water pressure. What caught my attention was how quiet everything is, despite being on a main street — the windows do their job well. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout the building, which matters when you’re trying to get work done or stream something after a long day exploring the city.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet here surprised me in the best way possible. It’s not huge, but everything they offer is actually good quality — proper German breads, decent coffee, fresh fruit that doesn’t look like it’s been sitting there for days. You know what I mean? They’ve got both local options and international basics, so whether you want a traditional German breakfast or just need your usual cereal and yogurt, you’re covered. The dining area gets busy around 8 AM, so if you’re an early riser like me, you’ll have the place mostly to yourself before 7:30.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something to be said for a hotel that people keep coming back to — and the repeat guest rate here is notably high for good reason. Couples seem particularly drawn to this spot, probably because it offers that sweet spot of being close enough to everything without the noise and chaos of staying right in the city center. The three-star rating doesn’t tell the whole story; this place punches above its weight class with thoughtful touches and genuine hospitality. It’s the kind of hotel where you feel comfortable but not pampered, relaxed but not bored — exactly what you want when Düsseldorf is your playground during the day.

  Crew offered compensation for switch of room. Wifi worked great. Hotel entrance had fragrant and vibrant ambiance. In general the location is great with a small shopping area in 100 meters.

  Great Breakfast. Parking spots available directly on the property. Staff was friendly. Bathroom was clean and the room itself looked great. Checkout was also pretty easy since they offer an express checkout
  
  What could be improved: We arrived in the middle of the night around 1AM. But we weren't able to enter the building because you need your key card to enter. We tried calling, but it seemed like their phone was on mute.. We only were able to enter because other guests let us in with their key card.

  Do it yourself menu is fun and pragmatic when it comes to choose our own ingredients for dinner. The night shift staff was incredible polite and explanatory, having a great feeling of being welcome to the hotel and the city. Interesting to have a DJ with nice music, not too loud, beautiful decoration, very warm and cozy, also nice the game area and loved the couches and different seating options everywhere. The rooms are espacious, good lights, nice bed sheets, and bathroom very modern and complete, the cleaning service also very good. Amazing options for buffet breakfast bar, great quality of breads and pastry: fresh and tasty, also a lot of variety donuts, cereales, a lot to choose and everything delicious. Interesting option is the 24/7 of pizza and drinks!
  
  What could be improved: This might be a one-time situation but don't want to skip it. The breakfast buffet offers scrumble eggs using an big device, which I have never seen before and it is a great idea from the hotel to have a semi-automatic machine for eggs which can make your morning easier and tastier (I think is the "SCRAEGG pro" machine). Unfortunately, the staff had a passive-aggresive attitude when I did not understand how to use it: I watched the instructions screen and pictures which were nice but at a bit fast speed, so I did it wrong. Even though it was my mistake, it was my first time at this hotel and the staff talked to me in a sarcastic tone and laugh at my face. This is not appreciated at all.
